THE

ABUELAS
PROJECT

OUR STORIES MATTER

Latinos in Heritage Conservation initiated with The Abuelas Project StoryMaps by choosing themes that impact Tejanos, including braceros, abandoned Mexican cemeteries, and conjunto music. The themes will continue to expand as comunidad submits their stories.

The following curated collection of StoryMaps will reflect the stories of Latinxs across, on, and near Route 66 in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

We work with student fellows and partners to curate stories about our history and the places that matter. Explore our collection of stories below.
