Latinos in Heritage Conservation Announces 2nd Cycle of Nuestra Herencia Grant Program
Grant program expands access to preservation funding for grassroots Latinx organizations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico
NATIONAL — October 14, 2025 — Latinos in Heritage Conservation (LHC) today announced the launch of the 2nd cycle of the Nuestra Herencia Grant Program, a national initiative dedicated exclusively to funding Latinx heritage and historic preservation projects. With $600,000 in annual funding made possible by the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, in partnership with the Social Impact Fund, the program remains the only national grant fund focused entirely on preserving Latinx heritage.
The Nuestra Herencia Grant Program supports nonprofit, Latinx-led and Latinx-serving organizations working to preserve historic places, document community stories, and build capacity for heritage conservation. Grants range from $5,000 to $100,000 across four categories: Capital Projects, Project Planning, Building Organizational Strength, and Community Interpretation & Engagement.
Cycle 2 Key Dates and Resources
Application opens: November 4, 2025
Application deadline: February 13, 2026
Grant period: June 2026 to May 2027/2028
The program also provides application materials in Spanish and individualized staff support to ensure accessibility for grassroots organizations of all sizes. While LHC does not provide fiscal sponsorship, groups without 501(c)(3) status may participate by working with an independent fiscal sponsor.
“Our communities have been excluded from preservation conversations for too long, and the result has been erasure of places, stories, and legacies that belong to us,” said Sehila Mota Casper, Executive Director of LHC. “We are making sure grassroots organizations have the resources to protect and pass on what matters most.”
Cycle 1 of the Nuestra Herencia Grant Program funded 14 organizations across the United States and Puerto Rico, supporting projects that ranged from preserving Chicanx murals in Colorado to rebuilding Afro–Puerto Rican community spaces in Loíza. These projects illustrate the diverse and powerful ways Latinx communities are safeguarding their heritage. Applications for the second cycle will be accepted through Submittable, an online portal.
To help applicants prepare, LHC will host a series of free informational webinars. For more information, grant guidelines, and the webinar calendar, visit NUESTRA HERENCIA GRANT PROGRAM.
