Casa Rudy Cruz Restoration
Chimayó Cultural Preservation Association
Chimayó, NM
Funding supports restoration of Casa Rudy Cruz, a historic adobe residence located on Chimayó’s Plaza del Cerro, a National Register-listed historic plaza in northern New Mexico. The project includes structural repairs, utility upgrades, historically appropriate finishes, and long-term preservation work designed to return the building to community use.
THIS SITE IS PART OF THE ENDANGERED LATINX LANDMARK LIST 2025
"The Rudy Cruz House— named for the large Cruz family who once filled it with life — stands at the heart of a 200-year-old Spanish Colonial plaza that fell silent after the post-WWII exodus hollowed out the community. Now, with the support of the Nuestra Herencia grant, the Chimayó Cultural Preservation Association can undertake its restoration, transforming the weathered adobe into more than a historic landmark: it will serve as a living center for youth and community activity, reclaiming its human dimension and reigniting a sense of shared Latino pride and belonging in Chimayó."
