Watsonville, California

Amesti Elementary School

Year Built:

1879

Founded in 1879, Amesti is the oldest school in the Pajaro Valley district and a living landmark for generations of farmworker families. Today, its predominantly Latinx students carry forward bilingual education, cultural traditions, and decades of community murals. This November, the district votes on closures, and the enrollment decline behind that vote is compounded by immigration enforcement keeping families home.
