2026 ENDANGERED LATINX LANDMARKS
Cotulla, Texas
Welhausen Mexican School
Year Built:
1926

One of South Texas’s best-preserved segregated Mexican schools, Welhausen holds the stories of generations of Mexican American children educated under unequal conditions. As surviving alumni grow older, those firsthand experiences risk disappearing with them. Without dedicated preservation funding or a comprehensive plan, both the building and the community history it carries face gradual loss.
