CONSERVING LATINX SITES AND LIVING CULTURES IN THE FABRIC OF AMERICAN SOCIETY

Founded in 2014, Latinos in Heritage Conservation is the leading non-profit organization for the preservation of Latinx places, stories, and cultural heritage in the United States. We are a diverse network of intergenerational advocates conserving Latinx sites and living cultures in the fabric of American society, affirming the value of our history in the hemispheric struggle for social justice.

LATINX TOOLKIT
Latinx Toolkit

The Toolkit is a bilingual booklet that empowers Latinx communities by demystifying historic preservation. The Toolkit highlights four Latinx heritage success stories from Texas, defines preservation terms, and provides guidance on how students, community members, and youth can preserve their communities.

The Abuelas Project LATINOS IN HERITAGE CONSERVATION

The Abuela's Project collects, curates, and amplifies stories of important LatinX movements, sites, and people in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. This GIS project encourages intergenerational storytelling. Storymaps focus on braceros, abandoned Mexican Cemeteries, Route 66, and more.

The digital project will encourage intergenerational storytelling using new media, create a system to research Latinx preservation, support allied efforts to designate Latinx historic sites, and identify important patterns related to Latinx preservation nationwide.

The Endangered Latinx Landmarks aims to identify, prioritize, and protect Latinx heritage sites in the U.S. facing threats like demolition, gentrification, neglect, and climate change. LHC rallies communities and gathers resources to safeguard these landmarks, ensuring Latinx heritage is preserved.

The program invites nominations of at-risk sites in the continental U.S. and Puerto Rico to highlight their significance and propose preservation solutions.
