ENDANGERED LATINX LANDMARKS

Herencia is more than a memory

Hand 5.png

Introducing a groundbreaking iniciativa!

The Endangered Latinx Landmarks program, led by Latinos in Heritage Conservation (LHC), se dedica a identificar, priorizar y proteger lugares de la herencia latinx across the United States that are under immediate threat. These sites hold immense importancia cultural, histórica y social, and face dangers such as demolition, gentrification, neglect, and the effects of climate change. Through this initiative, LHC will rally communities y llamarán la atención del público y conseguir recursos to safeguard these vital landmarks, ensuring that Latinx heritage is recognized and preserved as a fundamental part of our nation's shared history.

The program calls individuos y comunidades to contribute by nominating at-risk lugares de la herencia Latinx en los Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico. These nominations help highlight the significance of these places, outline the specific threats they face, and propose preservation solutions, allowing for collective action para preservar la historia latinx para las generaciones futuras.

Guía para nominar un Landmark
What are los pasos para nominación?
  • Start by collecting detalles sobre el sitio—its name, location y por qué es importante para la comunidad Latinx.

  • Clearly outline the current threats facing el lugar, como la demolición, el abandono o los daños medioambientales. Be as specific as possible para mostrar la urgencia.

  • Complete the nomination form through the Submittable. You’ll be asked to provide all the information gathered, así como fotos o documentos that support your case.

  • Mencione por qué este lugar es importante to you or your community. Comparta sus historias personales y por qué el lugar means so much. This can help bring attention to its value and make the case for why it should be saved!

Qué sucede after a site is nominated?
  • After you submit a nomination, el Departamento de Preservación Histórica de LHC y los Board Members will review the site to make sure it meets the program's criteria. Nuestro equipo revisará cada nominación  and gather extra information, si es necesario, from the people who nominated the site. We might also consult with preservation experts and heritage organizations to make sure we understand the full picture of the site’s significance and risks.

  • If a lugar is selected as one of the Endangered Latinx Landmarks, será anunciado públicamente como parte del program’s annual list. This brings attention to the site y ayuda a conseguir apoyo.

  • El programa trabajará con las comunidades locales, organizations, and preservation experts to create an action plan. This could include awareness campaigns, fundraising efforts, or partnerships with local groups para proteger el lugar.

  • The program will continue to follow up on the site’s status and work with stakeholders to track progress y adaptar las estrategias según sea necesario.
