April 28-30, 2022 | Denver, CO

#LHCCONGRESO2022

Gracias for Attending!

Thank you for attending Congreso 2022, our fourth biennial national convening! With over 250 in-person and virtual attendees from around the country, we were able to amplify our collective experience in the Intermountain Region and the U.S.

As the only conference of its kind, Congreso offered three days of content focused specifically on the topic of Latinx heritage conservation. Congreso provided a national forum to amplify regional efforts, successes as well as challenges, with the goal of building a culturally and geographically diverse movement for all American Latinxs.

In partnership with Historic Denver Inc, LHC hosted Congreso 2022 at Historic Denver in Denver, Colorado, April 28-30, 2022. Guided by the belief that historic preservation should be accessible, more inclusive, and reflective of her people, with over 250 people, Congreso 2022 centered on the Intermountain Region, explored multiple perspectives, and ignited the next wave of Latinx heritage practitioners.

The conference also affirmed LHC's national vision, which is focused on inclusion and historic preservation equity. 2020 marked the tenth anniversary since the Department of the Interior launched the American Latino Heritage Initiative, making this an ideal time to reflect on and celebrate Latinx preservation while highlighting Latinx historical presence, 20th-century urban history, contributions to American democracy, Sacred Indigenous sites, and cultural landscapes.

PREVIOUS CONFERENCES

Since 2015 Latinos in Heritage Conservation (LHC) has championed the preservation of Latinx Heritage through national conferences throughout the country. These landmark gatherings have brought together national thought leaders, preservationists, scholars, students, and community advocates to discuss the value and future of Latinx heritage conservation in the United States.

The first national summit took place in 2015 and was held in Tucson, Arizona. In 2016, LHC came together in Houston, Texas. In 2018, LHC partnered with Rhode Island Latino Arts and the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission for its third national convening, Encuentro, in Providence, Rhode Island. After delays due to the global pandemic, in 2022, LHC hosted its signature biennial national conference, Congreso, in Denver at the History Colorado Center with its intermountain partner, Historic Denver Inc.
