Hellyer Park and Parque de la Raza de Paz: National Register Nomination & Oral History Initiative
California Preservation Foundation
San Francisco, CA
Funding supports National Register nomination preparation and oral history documentation connected to Chicano movement history and community activism in San José centered around mid-1970s lowriding culture.
"The support of the Nuestra Herencia Grant allows us to document and elevate an important chapter of California history through the nomination of Hellyer Park to the National Register of Historic Places. This project recognizes the individuals, organizations, and cultural movements that helped shape the social and cultural identity of California and ensures their stories are preserved and honored."
- Cindy Heitzman, Executive Director, California Preservation Foundation
