UNTOLD STORIES OF THE BORDERLANDS

A Road Trip to Reclaim, Celebrate, and Preserve

The Untold Stories of the Borderlands is a storytelling road trip across Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, led by Latinos in Heritage Conservation (LHC), that will take place from May 16-28, 2025. Our mission is to celebrate and protect the diverse histories, cultures, and landscapes of the Mexico–U.S. borderlands—amplifying the voices and experiences of Latinx communities whose stories are often left out of mainstream narratives.

Through this road trip, we highlight places of deep significance—from ancestral homelands and sacred sites to neighborhoods shaped by migration and resilience. The team will also be capturing oral histories and imagery from community members that preserve and protect these spaces. Through this project we will honor the power of community memory, challenge harmful policies and colonial histories, and center Latinx leadership in shaping the future of preservation.
