Latinos in Heritage Conservation (LHC) is seeking a Contract Grant Writer to support our next phase of strategic growth and national impact. This part-time, remote contract role is an opportunity to help resource a movement that affirms Latinx heritage, people, and places across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
As we deepen our advocacy, education, and preservation initiatives, we are looking for a collaborative, equity-centered grant professional who is passionate about preservation access in Latinx communities and committed to building sustainable funding pipelines. This role is ideal for someone who brings both technical excellence and cultural fluency—and who understands that fundraising is not just transactional, but transformational.

Position Overview
This 4‑month, part-time contract (approximately 15–20 hours per week) will support grant prospecting, writing, reporting, and compliance to advance LHC’s growing portfolio of national programs and initiatives. Deliverables will be calibrated to opportunity size and complexity, with an initial target of 4–6 submissions per month.
The Contract Grant Writer will work closely with the Executive Director and program staff to develop compelling proposals that center Latinx heritage, community impact, and equity-driven preservation practice. You will leverage existing narratives and program materials while helping to strengthen and expand our grants portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Research
Identify and vet new funding opportunities aligned with Latinx heritage preservation and community-based work.
Assess eligibility, funding fit, and strategic alignment with LHC’s mission and programs.
Maintain a prospect pipeline in Instrumentl, a grants management/prospecting platform.
Grant Writing & Proposal Development
Draft high-quality LOIs, full proposals, narratives, and required attachments.
Tailor submissions to funder priorities while centering LHC’s mission, values, and community impact.
Collaborate with program staff to gather data, stories, outcomes, and budgets.
Leverage existing boilerplate and program descriptions while strengthening and expanding content as needed.
Grant Reporting & Compliance
Prepare interim and final reports that clearly communicate impact and learning.
Track deadlines and reporting requirements to ensure timely submissions.
Maintain documentation of awarded grants, deliverables, and funder communications.
Support development of simple internal grant work plans with staff to ensure deliverables are met on time.
Collaboration & Communication
Participate in virtual check-ins and planning sessions with the Executive Director and relevant staff.
Communicate proactively about timelines, information needs, and anticipated challenges.
Contribute to a culture of learning, transparency, and shared ownership of fundraising.
Qualifications
Proven success securing competitive grants for nonprofits, including awards of $50,000 or more (arts, culture, humanities, heritage, or community-based organizations preferred).
Understanding of, or lived experience within, Latinx communities strongly preferred.
Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to assess funder alignment and priorities.
Exceptional storytelling and written communication abilities, with a clear, compelling writing style.
Familiarity with Instrumentl or similar grant prospecting/database tools.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects independently in a remote environment.
Comfort working with a small, entrepreneurial team where systems and processes are evolving.
Contract Details
Term: 4 months
Schedule: Approximately 15–20 hours/week (flexible, remote).
Expected Output (initial target):
5–10 fully vetted funding opportunities over the contract term.
4–6 submissions per month (mix of LOIs and full proposals, adjusted for opportunity size and complexity).
Compensation: $60/hour, not to exceed $19,200 total over the contract term (equivalent to up to $4,800/month depending on hours worked).
Employment Type: This is a 1099 independent contractor position; the contractor is responsible for their own taxes and benefits.
